Since the advent of Gaia combined with Hubble Space Telescope COS and STIS spectroscopy, extensive new physical properties of accreting white dwarfs in cataclysmic variables have been
obtained. This review is focused upon new robust white dwarf masses, as well as surface temperatures, chemical abundances and rotational velocities of accreting cataclysmic variable degenerates. We find that the N/C anomaly and supra-solar abundances of Al are present both in CVs with evolved donors and CVs with unevolved donors. Our results up to now are summarized along with physical interpretations
