Recent experimental studies on exotic nuclei near and beyond the neutron drip line using the
multi-purpose large acceptance spectrometer SAMURAI at RIBF at RIKEN are presented. In
particular, we focus on the experiment on the beyond-drip-line nucleus 26O produced by the one-proton removal reaction of 27F at 201 MeV/nucleon. We have found that the ground state is barely
unbound, only 18(3)(stat.)(4)(syst) keV, with respect to the two neutron emission threshold. We
discuss the implication of such a finding. We also show perspectives on the on-going and near
future projects at SAMURAI on the neutron drip line nuclei.
