This talk gives an overview of the measurements of the effective leptonic weak mixing angle
$\mathrm{sin}^{2}\theta^{\ell}_{\mathrm{eff}}$ and of the $W$ boson mass $m_W$ with the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the LHC, with a focus on dominant theoretical uncertainties and on prospects for future measurements. It also presents results from recent $W\to\ell\nu$ and $Z\to\ell\ell$ cross section measurements, which are important inputs for the $\mathrm{sin}^{2}\theta^{\ell}_{\mathrm{eff}}$ and $m_W$ measurements.
